Family law is what we used to call divorce law, and then we called it matrimonial law, and now it's family law. But it's basically the same thing. It's representing clients in their divorce, equitable distribution of property, child support, custody. It's the same thing. We have somebody in this room who has experience in every kind of case. That's what I think makes this firm, as a matrimonial firm or family law firm, stand apart from others.
I decided to go into family law when I moved to New Jersey and didn't know anyone, and I was lucky enough, I got a judicial clerkship. This was right out of law school. I didn't know what I was going to do, but the judge that I worked for was a matrimonial judge, handled only divorce cases, and then I met a lot of lawyers, and I got a job, and then I got another job. And then in January of 1970, I went out on my own. Couldn't believe it. It's grown since there. I've argued three times before the New Jersey Supreme Court. I've also argued many times before the appellate division. We just came down with a case about a year ago, Slutsky versus Slutsky, that is really one of the most significant cases valuation of our partner's interest in a law firm.
My proudest moment was seeing this firm develop the way it is and seeing my partner Angelo develop into the lawyer that he's become.
